Redline Awarded Patent on New Wireless Networking Technology
Connecting any mobile terminal to any base station via embedded software assures fast, accurate connections while eliminating external components and added costs.
TORONTO – July 12, 2017– Redline Communications (www.rdlcom.com) Group Inc. (TSX: RDL), a leading provider of wide-area wireless networks for the most challenging applications and locations, today announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded the company a new patent for network topology awareness (NTA) titled, System and method for wireless mobility protocol for highly directional antennas with network topology awareness.
“Despite the long title, this patent defines how our new, powerful NTA technology is used in our customers’ networks. It allows us to program all the customer’s network details into the protocol stack in each radio. It’s all done via software,” says Robert Williams, Redline CEO. “This way any mobile subscriber station in the network, whether on the ground, on water or up in the air, can connect to any other stationary or mobile sector controller, instantaneously and accurately with highly directional antennas.”
With NTA technology, Redline can address applications in many wide-area markets such as oil and gas offshore operations, state and municipal intelligent transportation systems and public safety, military mobile ground force communications, port authorities video surveillance and naval operations for ship-to-shore and even ship-to-ship communications.
Patented NTA technology is a major advance over conventional wireless tracking and antenna alignment methods that require a separate radio and external GPS location-processing equipment which add delays, costs and another point-of-failure into the system.
NTA technology is incorporated into the company’s flagship RDL-3000 XP Virtual Fiber™ family of point-to-multipoint (PMP) and new RDL-3100 XG point-to-point (PTP) radio systems, and is included with every new order.
Part of the RDL-3000 XP line, the RAS (Rapid Alignment System) Elite and RAS Extend nomadic terminals with built-in NTA technology are widely-deployed by natural resources companies and government agencies in North America, the Persian Gulf and Southeast Asia.
Williams emphasizes, “Redline continues to invest in developing new powerful wireless technologies that enable customer applications with significantly better price/performance characteristics than what is currently available. We remain among the innovation leaders in the wireless business today.”
