TORONTO, ON November 30, 2017 – Redline Communications (www.rdlcom.com) Group Inc. (TSX: RDL), a leading provider of wide-area wireless networks for the most challenging applications and locations congratulates Garrett County, Maryland government and Declaration Networks Group (DNG), Vienna, Virginia for receiving the ‘Community Broadband Innovative Partnership of the Year’ award from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) at NATOA’s 2017 Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington in September.
NATOA honours outstanding individuals and projects that seek to improve government and public options in broadband technology.
Garrett County government launched DNG’s NeuBeam™ service in October 2016 to provide local businesses and homes with high-speed Internet access in areas where it was not available from incumbent telecommunications service providers. The initiative was developed by the County and partially funded by a matching grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission.
DNG’s NeuBeam service leverages fiber optic networks and unlicensed wireless spectrum allocated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) including television ‘white space’ (TVWS) frequencies. TVWS radios perform very well in much of the unserved parts of Garrett County to overcome the challenging mountainous terrain and heavy foliage.
“Redline is proud to be an integral part of the Garrett County-DNG project in providing RF design consultancy and the RDL-3000 XP wireless broadband system including our TVWS solution,” says Jeff Gould, Redline Senior VP-Global Sales & Marketing. “Redline’s TVWS solution delivers the FCC-mandated 25 Mbps service requirement in a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) transmission mode that DNG needed to reach customers in parts of Garrett County.”
NeuBeam customers can now connect with family and friends, stream movies, access school and training resources, play games and download music, use social media and shop online, and work from home, and so much more. The service for local residents and businesses is currently available in several communities in southern Garrett County, and a significant network buildout is planned to reach more unserved and underserved areas of the county.
“We are very pleased to have been recognized by NATOA along with Garrett County for driving broadband innovation into rural markets,” says Bob Nichols, DNG CEO. “Redline has been a key component of our NeuBeam service that delivers reliable high-speed Internet to our customers.”
The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisers (NATOA) is the premier local government professional association that provides support to our members on the many local, state, and federal communications laws, administrative rulings, judicial decisions, and technology issues impacting the interests of local governments. Founded in 1980, we offer a wide range of advocacy services to individual and agency members representing cities, towns, counties and commissions across the country. NATOA actively analyzes and addresses emerging issues in areas such as local government communications and internet policy; broadband planning best practices; cable franchising; wireless zoning; new technology initiatives and advancements; and operation of public, education and government (PEG) access channels.
